Certificate of Merit - Rapps Dam Road Covered Bridge
Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Awards - August 15, 2012
The Rapps Dam Road Covered Bridge was recognized with a Certificate of Merit by the 2012 Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Awards. The bridge is a wooden Burr Arch Truss spanning 106 feet over the scenic French Creek in East Pikeland Township, Chester County, PA. The bridge was originally constructed by Benjamin F. Hartman in 1868 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Rapps Dam Road Historic Wooden Covered Bridge Rehabilitation Project was completed in 2011 included wood repairs to the lower truss chord, the removal and replacement of deteriorated wood members, the removal and replacement of the steel beam superstructure, the stabilization of the stone masonry abutments, the application of a clear fire retardant and wood preservative, the repainting of the portals, and minor roadway improvements.
