The American Council of Engineering Companies’ Pennsylvania Chapter (ACEC/PA) honored Pennoni Associates with a Diamond Certificate Award for its work on the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market project. This award was given in the Special Projects Category.
Pennoni provided consulting engineering services during the development and construction of the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market, a high quality fresh produce facility that serves customers within a 500 mile radius. The firm prepared survey, geotechnical, environmental, site/civil, transportation, plans, investigations and reports addressing the implementation for the design, permitting and construction of the this 700,000 square-foot structure with 224 loading docks at 67th Street and Essington Avenue in South Philadelphia.
The team identified critical path items necessary for the timely completion of this project, and also participated in representing the owner’s interests in many meetings with the local and state municipal and governmental offices, as well as public and private utility providers. In addition to the Produce Market, the site includes an 18,000 square-foot recycle building, a security building, and four toll booth style entry gates. This market was constructed with state of the art and energy efficient materials that are conducive to supporting a healthy environment.
