Groundwater Investigation and Fate and Transport Model
Vineland, NJ

Pennoni prepared a groundwater investigation and Remedial Investigation Report (RIR) in accordance with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Technical Requirements for Site Remediation for the Vineland Landfill. The Landfill was identified as a potential source of groundwater contamination when elevated concentrations of benzene were reported in samples collected from production wells on an adjacent property. Pennoni reviewed historical data and planned an investigation to characterize groundwater conditions at the landfill. Pennoni oversaw the installation of seven monitoring wells in the shallow, intermediate and deep zones of the aquifer, geophysical well logging, groundwater sampling, aquifer pumping and slug tests. The well pumping and slug tests were analyzed with Aquifer Test® computer software and a fate and transport analysis of the groundwater concentrations was prepared with Visual MODFLOW® groundwater modeling software. The results of the remedial investigations were submitted to the NJDEP demonstrating that the landfill was not the source of benzene contamination identified in groundwater on the adjacent property.
