Water System Evaluation, Distribution Modeling and Well Rehabilitation for Upper Southampton Municipal Authority
Upper Southampton Township, PA
Pennoni provided water system evaluation and distribution modeling for the Upper Southampton Municipal Authority. The firm prepared a WaterCAD® hydraulic model to evaluate the operation of the pumping storage and entire distribution system. The system supplies approximately 4,800 customers over two pressure zones with an average demand of approximately 1.2 MGD supplied from interconnections, and wells. The system includes elevated storage tanks, ground storage tanks and approximately 80 miles of mains. The system evaluation and model provided an understanding of system efficiencies leading to modifications to valves, booster pump operation sequencing and properly locating a new chlorination system.
Pennoni also provided well rehabilitation for the Upper Southampton Municipal Authority. The firm conducted aquifer tests on existing public water supply wells to evaluate well yields and water quality. Work included down-hole camera investigations and testing to design rehabilitation measures for wells with lowered efficiency due to calcium and manganese deposits. Pennoni provided recommendations, and implemented redevelopment of the wells, new pumps and pump settings for maximum yields and improved efficiency. Pennoni also prepared permit applications to the Delaware River Basin Commission to bring wells into compliance with Southeastern Pennsylvania groundwater protected area requirements.
