Arch Bridge Rehabilitation in Franklin County for Little Walnut Creek
This project included rehabilitation plans for this 3 span, 249-ft. long structure, built in 1918. Pennoni performed an in-depth inspection to verify the solidity of the concrete. Because of the good condition of the arch and the local historical aspect, a solution was required to keep this bridge intact as much as possible. Applying technology never before used in the US, the widened deck is supported using an exterior skeletal system of 20-inch steel tubing. The steel tube aggressively supports the period rail while not hiding the historic arch. The low bid was $1.73M. Because extending the deep spread footing was avoided, it was estimated that Franklin County realized a $500,000 cost savings.
