Berlin Water Department Hydrogeologic Services
Pennoni provided hydrogeologic services to replace a high capacity production well in the Potomac-Raritan-Magothy Aquifer. The 700 foot well was drilled with a 30 inch diameter mud-rotary bit and set with 70 feet of 14 inch well casing to produce 1000 gallons per minute (gpm). Pennoni observed the geophysical logging of the well, correlated it to the drill cutting samples, and designed an efficient well screen and gravel pack in consultation with the well driller. A 24-hour pump test was conducted at 1200 gpm and Pennoni analyzed the aquifer test results to determine the sustained yield and long-term drawdown of the well for the selection of an efficient vertical turbine well pump. The firm evaluated capacity for the water system including the use of purchased and groundwater sources.
