Bridge Inspection Services for the DelDOT Statewide Open-End Bridge Safety Inspection Contract
DelDOT is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of over 1,600 bridges statewide. Selected by DelDOT to provide engineering/inspection services, Pennoni assisted the Department with inspections under Agreement No. 1612 from 2013-2016 and was re-selected again under Agreement 1801 for services from 2017-2020. Pennoni performs In-Depth, Special, and Fracture Critical Inspections of highway structures in accordance with DelDOT, FHWA, and NBIS Standards. On each of Delaware’s 8 movable span bridges, Pennoni performed Mechanical and Electrical Inspections in addition to the typical structural inspections. Pennoni’s in-house certified staff performed Non-Destructive Evaluations on suspected cracked members and bridge pins/anchor bolts. Staff utilize a variety of equipment, including under-bridge inspection units (snoopers), manlifts, boats, truck mounted lifts, and ladders as well as confined space entry techniques for interior inspections of box girders and steel pier caps.
In addition to typical bridge safety inspections, Pennoni performed several other tasks for DelDOT’s Bridge Management Section including Deck Evaluations, Emergency Inspections, Load Ratings, Structural Health Monitoring and development of a new Bridge Inspection Manual and training materials.
