Bridge Load Ratings for 41 of DelDOT's State-owned Bridges
As part of the open end bridge inspection agreement with DelDOT, Pennoni provided load rating computations for 41 structures to assess bridge capacities based on current bridge conditions. Load ratings were performed utilizing Load Resistance Factor Rating (LRFR) methodology in accordance with the AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation and DelDOT standards. The analyzed structures are located throughout the state and varied in complexity. Continuous deck slabs, steel, prestressed and cast-in-place concrete beams were rated with BRASS software. MDX software was used for the load rating of curved structures. Concrete arch culverts and slabs supported by column foundations were modeled in STAAD with load ratings completed by hand calculations. Included with this assignment was the load rating of the I-95 Viaduct through Wilmington, DE (dual structures) and two moveable structures with 3-Span double leaf bascule lift configurations.
