Bridge Replacement in City of Kent for Redmond Bridge over Cuyahoga River
This project involved the replacement of the existing Redmond Bridge over the Cuyahoga River located in Fred Fuller Park in the City of Kent. The City desired a visually pleasing structure to blend in with the park setting. The new a 3-span bridge offers an 11-foot roadway, a 6-foot sidewalk and 1.5-foot wide parapets on each side for a total deck width of 20.0 feet. The existing vertical profile was raised to provide increased clearance and the abutments were located to minimize impacts to the wetlands along the riverbanks. Bridge aesthetics are achieved via the span arrangement and the smooth curves of the haunched plate girders. Rustication grooves on the abutments add simple, clean, horizontal lines to the exterior of the piers, highlighting the smooth curves of the girders. Galvanized girders provide a silver color appearance.
