Pennoni’s process design engineers completed a full design of a conventional acid leach and solvent extraction and separation of uranium from ore transported to the Peña Ranch Mill Site in McKinley County, New Mexico. Upon receipt at the facility, the ore will be ground to make a fine slurry, acid-leached to separate the uranium from the ore, recovered from the leach solution using a solvent extraction process, precipitated as yellowcake slurry, dried, and transported to the customer to be converted to needed fuel for U.S. nuclear reactor energy plants. Pennoni completed all process flow schematics, mass balances, P&IDs, treatment process unit sizing and selection, structure layout, air handling including negative pressure areas, civil/site layout, evaporation ponds, utility systems, support structure, and innovative tailings management systems.
