Pennoni Co-Op Turned Full-Time Engineer Speaks at World’s Largest Women's Engineering Conference
This past weekend, Danielle Schroeder, Graduate Engineer of our Philadelphia, PA office, traveled to Austin, Texas to represent Pennoni as a workshop presenter at the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) WE17 – the world’s largest conference for women engineers.
This year’s conference was record breaking with over 14,000 attendees from across the globe, and Danielle was a part of the five-person panel in the “Engineer Your Life Outside the Classroom – Put Your Extracurriculars to Work” workshop. She spoke about her collegiate experience including her co-op at Pennoni that ultimately led to a full-time job. Danielle emphasized to the 70-plus workshop attendees the importance of getting involved in leadership activities, studying abroad if you have the opportunity, and non-academic extracurriculars; as well as how to take these experiences and effectively communicate them on your resume. At the end of the workshop, Danielle answered questions from the audience and stayed afterwards to offer her advice on resume building.
Danielle says that she is just as inspired by the conference now, working at Pennoni, then when she attended it as a student at Drexel. She says, “Attending the conference while I was at Drexel as a collegiate was always inspirational; even just seeing the sheer number of women engineers in one place. Now as a professional, I am proud that I was able to give back this year and help the soon to be graduating engineers craft their resumes, give advice on how to rock their interviews and hopefully, give them someone to look up to as they work to achieve their goals.” Also during the conference, Danielle volunteered for ‘Invent It Build It’ which is a one-day long event for girls grades 6-12 designed to encourage girls to choose a career in engineering through hands-on activities.
