Pennoni’s SR 3006 over Gardner Creek Bridge replacement project, ECMS 8308, was chosen by PennDOT as a Digital Delivery Pilot Project. This project did not include Structure Plans or Roadway Cross Sections. Instead, the model files served as the contract document for bidding and construction. A 3D model was created using the OpenBridge Modeler and OpenRoads Designer software, providing all the information typically included in a plan set through 3D views, attributes, annotated model-developed views, and additional 2D details. Information was conveyed through saved views that directed the viewer to the desired information without the need to manipulate the model.
During the delivery process, Pennoni helped PennDOT and their Digital Delivery Team to develop a review process for 3D models and digital information using iTwin models on ProjectWise365. Additionally, Pennoni took the lead in Advertising and Letting the Project by leading the Contract Management Review for PennDOT, District 4-0. Following the project award, Pennoni provided continued assistance in training the contractor and PennDOT inspection staff on using SYNCHRO Control and SYNCHRO Field as the model viewer. Construction was finished 1.5 months ahead of schedule, and the final walk-through took place on May 29th, 2024. Throughout the construction period, Pennoni provided construction services and assisted the contractor in using the digital delivery files.
Notably, this project is the first Bridge Digital Delivery Pilot Project in PA. Check out our Insights article on this project
