Bentley Systems Executive Chairman Recognized for Contributions to Infrastructure and Innovation
PHILADELPHIA—Pennoni, a multidisciplinary engineering firm headquartered in Philadelphia, proudly hosted the annual Ellipse Award Gala on March 15, 2025, at the Springfield Country Club. The event celebrated leaders who have made a significant impact on infrastructure development. This year, Greg Bentley, Executive Chairman of Bentley Systems, Inc., was honored with the 2025 Ellipse Award for his outstanding contributions to advancing infrastructure and digital innovation.
Established in 2007, the Ellipse Award recognizes individuals whose pioneering work has improved quality of life through innovation in infrastructure. Greg Bentley exemplifies this mission through his visionary leadership at Bentley Systems, a global infrastructure engineering software company he co-founded in 1984 alongside his brothers. Under his guidance, Bentley Systems has grown to more than 5,000 employees and surpassed $1 billion in revenue, shaping the future of digital solutions in public works, utilities, and transportation.
Greg Bentley’s contributions to infrastructure and digital innovation have transformed how we design, build, and manage the world around us. His leadership at Bentley Systems has advanced technology and empowered engineers and communities to create smarter, more resilient infrastructure. We are honored to present him with the 2025 Ellipse Award for his remarkable achievements and lasting impact on the industry,” says David A. DeLizza, PE, president and CEO at Pennoni.
Beyond his industry achievements, Greg strongly advocates education and community engagement. He serves as a trustee of Drexel University, where Bentley Hall is home to the Pennoni Honors College, and he is Secretary of The Pennsylvania Society. His leadership was further recognized in 2024 when he was named EY Entrepreneur of the Year in Philadelphia and a national finalist.
“I am honored to join the ranks of Ellipse Award recipients, including Pennoni’s own founder and chairman of the board, Chuck Pennoni. Engineers–like those at Pennoni, like my brothers, and like many of my colleagues–neither seek nor receive credit for their work, which is incredibly important, nonetheless. They embody our purpose at Bentley Systems, to advance the world’s infrastructure for better quality of life. Since 1984, Bentley Systems has worked in partnership with engineers, helping them to design, build, and operate better and more resilient infrastructure here in the Philadelphia region, across Pennsylvania, and around the world. We remain as inspired, today, by the achievements of our software users, as we were more than 40 years ago. At a time when digital twins and AI are redefining infrastructure engineering, I look with excitement toward the future. The opportunities to empower future generations of engineers–and, hopefully, future Ellipse Award recipients–are endless,” says Bentley.
Pennoni extends our heartfelt congratulations to Greg Bentley on this well-deserved honor. His dedication to advancing infrastructure and improving communities embodies the spirit of the Ellipse Award and sets a benchmark for future industry leaders.
