Longevity Meets Flexibility
With nearly 60 years of expertise, Pennoni delivers innovative solutions by approaching engineering challenges from a wider angle than most and fostering collaboration to address current challenges and future demands.
In response to Pennsylvania’s Chesapeake Bay Strategy, an initiative dedicated to water quality improvement, Pennoni designed and permitted the expansion and upgrade of the Silver Spring wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). Pennoni prepared a Conceptual Planning Study for the upgrade of the 0.6 MGD WWTP to 1.2 MGD. The selected alternative, a modified Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) with effluent filtration system, was designed and permitted by Pennoni. Pennoni also assisted the Authority in bidding the work and provided construction management and inspection. The total construction cost, which was covered under three separate construction contracts, was $8.9 million and was completed over 18 months.
