Downtown Williamsburg faces unique challenges being located between a national tourism destination, Colonial Williamsburg, and a public university – the College of William and Mary. Pennoni designed seven site-specific development recommendations, as well as study-area-wide recommendations which focused strongly on implementation, place-making, and pedestrian connectivity, and included streetscape and public realm improvements, design guidelines, and recommendations for programming and events.
