On Thursday, May 3rd, ASCE Philadelphia held their annual Spring Social. At this event, nine individuals were recognized for their contributions to ASCE and the civil engineering profession. Three of those nine award winners are Pennoni employees in the Philadelphia Transportation Division:
Jennifer Reigle – President’s Award
Jen Reigle, Senior Engineer in our Transportation division, has been with Pennoni for the past 11 years.The President’s Award is given out annually and chosen by the outgoing president. Jen was recognized for this award because of her contributions to the ASCE Philadelphia Section where she currently serves as Treasurer. During her time as treasurer, she has assisted in improving the Section’s internal operations by developing a financial tracking system, including implementing an annual audit. She has also assisted in refining the check-in process at section dinners.
Jen’s noteworthy projects at Pennoni include the I-276/I-95 Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange Project consisting of two bridge replacements and two bridge repairs; SEPTA’s Crum Creek Viaduct Replacement Project and the award-winning Rehabilitation of the Rapps Dam Road (SR 1049) Bridge over French Creek in Phoenixville, PA.
Jesse Gormley – Philadelphia Young Civil Engineer of the Year
Jesse Gormley, Staff Engineer in our Transportation division, has been with Pennoni for the past eight years. The Philadelphia Young Civil Engineer of the Year is given each year to an engineer under the age of 36 for their service to the civil engineering profession. Jesse was nominated and honored for this award because of his involvement with ASCE on both local and national levels. He is highly involved with the Philadelphia Section’s Younger Member Forum and is the Forum’s current Secretary. Jesse was also recently appointed as the Chair of the National Committee of Younger Members. He was also instrumental in the formation of the Civil Engineering Club at the Chester A. Arthur School in South Philadelphia, which allows students in 6thto 8thgrades a hands-on exposure to civil engineering.
Jesse’s recent Pennoni projects include the Crum Creek Viaduct replacement on SEPTA’s Media Elwyn Regional Rail line, the replacement of overhead structures on the Vine Street Expressway in Center City Philadelphia, PA, and the award-winning Lock Street bridge which spans the Manayunk Canal in northwest Philadelphia, PA.
Timothy Abel – Community Outreach and Service Award
Tim Abel, AssociateEngineer in our Philadelphia Transportation division, has worked at Pennoni for nearly 3 years. Tim received the Community Outreach and Service Award for notable and exemplary service in outreach efforts. For two years, he has organized weekly Civil Engineering Club meetings with 6th through 8th grade students at the Chester A. Arthur School. One notable meeting involved a field trip to the Cira Green in West Philadelphia where students learned about sustainable stormwater management practices. Tim also volunteers as a member of the ASCE Committee on Sustainability. He has previously volunteered as an awards judge with the Future City Philadelphia Competition and an engineer mentor with the University of Delaware’s “E-Week” Speed Mentoring Program.
Some of his Pennoni recent projects include the review of PennDOT District 6 highway occupancy permit applications, the design of roadway and pedestrian improvements associated with the Penn Medicine at Radnor site in King of Prussia, PA, and the design of roadway improvements associated with the proposed replacement of the 34th Street/University Avenue Bridge over the former CSX Railroad in Philadelphia, PA.
