Anne Arundel County Open Space Planning

As Anne Arundel County grows and available open space remains vacant, the need for a coordinated effort to update the land preservation parks and recreation plan became crucial to providing a vision for the future. 

Pennoni was selected to prepare the 2022 update based on our proven record of successfully designing Open Space plans that examine the challenges faced by the community, provide strategies to overcome those challenges, and identify opportunities for growth while preserving quality of life.

The plan is required by the state of Maryland as an update of the 2017 plan and will include an executive summary and five chapters in accordance with state guidelines including: plan introduction; framework; recreation, parks and open space; natural resources land conservation; and agricultural land preservation.

The key to ensuring equitable access to all county residents is our extensive public engagement effort, where core values and priorities are emerging from a community-driven public process using a variety of ways to communicate and engage.
