The Former Curtis Paper Mill site, in Newark, DE, is a 7.38-acre parcel previously used for high-quality paper and cotton pulp manufacturing activities. Pennoni conducted a Brownfield Investigation (BFI), which included collaboration with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) to investigate the past, current, and potential risk of the site. Pennoni prepared a BFI Work Plan and Report and performed investigations as specified in the DNREC Hazardous Substance Cleanup Act Guidance Manual.
Fieldwork included investigations of subsurface soils, groundwater, and stream sediments and the horizontal and vertical extent of potential PAH and metal contamination. Pennoni recommended remedies to lower the risk posed by the environmental conditions present at the site.
