Interstate 676 carries approximately 106,000 vehicles a day across its 1.75-mile length, making it an integral part of Philadelphia’s traffic system. The highway travels east to west across Philadelphia’s bustling Center City business district, connecting the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) and Interstate 95 (I-95).
Pennoni was selected by the PennDOT Engineering District 6-0 to complete the development of conceptual plans, contract bid documents, and services during construction for the superstructure replacement of seven non-composite bridges, which include 22nd Street, 21st Street, 20th Street, The Free Library of Philadelphia Pedestrian Bridge, 19th Street, The Family Court Pedestrian Bridge, and 18th Street, all of which span I-676. Pennoni managed a large design team and coordinated with more than 30 stakeholders and reviewing agencies to work toward solutions that meet the needs of the community and agencies. The firm is currently providing construction administration services.
