Columbia field, primarily used by St. Joseph’s Preparatory School and owned by the City of Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation underwent significant improvements including a synthetic turf. St. Joe’s funded and managed the construction work, implementing the improvements in partnership with Parks and Rec. Pennoni coordinated between the two in order to design a project that met the objectives of both parties. Pennoni engineers also worked closely with the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) to develop a stormwater management solution that would address future off-site runoff in addition to managing on-site runoff. The new field at St. Joe’s fulfilled a mayor’s promise by providing an appropriate home for a championship team and a place for young athletes to be engaged in team sports, stay out of trouble, and have fun.
